It’s been a long long time ago since the word “America” seemed something strange and unaccustomed for Russian people. Times have changed- the global processes in the whole world have led to the development of the international contacts with different countries. More and more people of different ages- from students to the retired  go to the USA to study, work or just admire the beauties of this country. It’s so up-to-date  to talk about Manhattan or Rodeo Drive while sitting in the café in any of Russian cities.. I’ve heard people talking in this way many times. As I’m a student of the faculty of the foreign languages I constantly have to deal with the international contacts. I like it as in my opinion my future profession of interpreter is the best ever existed. But there is one drawback that I still can’t get rid of : I’ve never been to the USA. Some of my group mates have already gone there on different courses. At the moment my personal affairs didn’t afford me to join them. In details, my financial situation didn’t let me  find the sum of money needed for participation. Yet, going to America rests my greatest dream.

       My acquaintance with America started long ago in my childhood when I watched all the Disney cartoons in original. I didn’t understand any word but I heard American speech and it is since that time that I’ve been used to American English. Then it was the turn of language school, Hollywood movies in original and studying of American culture, geography and history.

       If I’m asked what America means for me, my answer may seem quite banal: a whole world… It’s is like a magic story that I know everything about but can’t get involved in. In this case the situation is a bit easier- I can. Ernest Hemingway once said- “To see Paris and to die”. For me it’s all the same to New York. Its atmosphere, its spirit, its crowds of people and everything else connected with it seem the most attractive things for me. I wish I could have a chance to look at all of this by my own eyes, to feel it, to talk to the people, just to touch my dream.
